Hot hot hot in Dubai

September 7th, 2009 No comments

I am starting to loose count of the amount of times I have now been to Dubai. So it must be a nice country to visit then if you keep going back I hear? Well the answer is quite simply, “yes”.

_PAS0604Dubai is an emirate (or state) in the country of the United Arab Emirates. Not really famous for oil production but for being the biggest and the best in nearly everything. There is alot of history to the UAE but its difficult to find it. Nowadays Dubai are being the first in everything, with an indoor ski dome, 7 star hotel, tallest tower in the world, a city based on a man made island, you name it and they are making it. There is plenty to keep you entertained and a week in this country would be easily sufficient.

Why do I like Dubai so much then? Answer is really that I do not know. The flights are pretty cheap and getting around Dubai is cheap enough. Ok hotels are rather expensive but your are guaranteed near perfect weather with temperatues during the summer touching 45c during the day and at night your still looking at 30c+. Overall though you can’t really beat the relaxation of the place. Jumeirah beach has now become my normal haunt. Great beach which is not crowded at all and loads of restaurants.

_PAS0607So onto photography in Dubai. First off I had big trouble the last time I went as the lense developed condensation inside and once you have that its near impossible to get rid of it. It literally was taken out of the hotel and straight away was un-useable. That limited my use. Then the other issue you have is that taking photos can make you feel uncomfortable as you could be in a position to take a good photo and if an Arabian woman was to walk into the frame by accident then you can be accused of a whole host of things. I do struggle to take decent photos though whenever I am in the country as its either too high, too new or too bright to photograph.

I have enclosed some photos in this blog but won’t be adding them my portfolio. Maybe in 2010 I will venture out to a different country. Hong Kong has always interested me but then I have a love for New York and I fancy that as a good photo opportunity.
